MercyMedical Center celebrates most nurses on list of 2008's 100 Great Nurses

Mercy Medical Center  is proud to announce ten Mercy nurses have been selected to be honored among the 100 Great Iowa Nurses for 2008.  That’s more than any other hospital in the state.

The 100 Great Iowa Nurses award recognizes nurses who have made a meaningful and lasting contribution to humanity and their profession, and are viewed as a mentor to others.  They exemplify the principles on which the 100 Great Nurses Celebration was founded.

The ten nurses from Mercy Medical Center selected for this honor include:

  • Darcy Koehn, Mercy Family Counseling
  • Cheryl Kissling, Birthplace
  • Vicki Keegan, Patient Care Services
  • Kay Jackson, Women’s Center
  • Tim Hehr, Intensive Care Center
  • Janice Bronson, Radiation Center
  • Connie Hauskins, Children’s Services
  • Penny Glanz, Surgical Services
  • Mary Freese, Home Health Care
  • Sue Dawson, Clinical Outcomes and Research

These Mercy nurses will be among those honored in Des Moines on Sunday, May 4, at the fourth annual celebration of Iowa ’s Great Nurses.Recipients from prior years are invited back to be recognized, and the 2008 awardees will invite family, friends and colleagues to share in the recognition of their outstanding achievements.

The 100 honorees represent 38 counties, and the initial pool of 276 nominees came from 70 of Iowa 's 99 counties.  The field of nominees was narrowed to 100 by a panel of judges, including nursing professionals and last year’s award winners, who received nominations from around the state.

Nurses selected for the honor represent many sectors of health care, including hospitals, long-term care facilitis, and school and office nurses.  Similar celebrations of the nursing profession are held in the states of Louisiana , North Carolina and Texas .
