Mercy Medical Center opens Aquatics Center therapy pool at PCI
Mercy Medical Center is pleased to announce it will re-open the therapy pool located in the Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa building, 600 7th St. SE , on Monday, March 3. The pool, formerly operated by Physiotherapy Associates, is now called the Mercy Aquatics Center . Mercy has been renovating the therapy and lap pools and surrounding space for several months and is ready to open the facility for community use.
Improvements include a new chairlift that accommodates up to 400 pounds and new ladders for easier pool access. A shower head has been added in the pool area to make it easier to rinse off before and after pool usage. A new non-slip pool deck surface is installed, designed to stop musty odors and eliminate the development of fungi. An ultra-violet disinfection system will also be installed for each pool. This system significantly reduces chloramines, improves air and water quality, reduces causes of eye and skin irritations, and is effective against chlorine resistant pathogens.
The center will begin physical therapy services in mid-March. There will be a limited number of group fitness classes offered now. Additional classes will be added in May. The group fitness classes include senior aerobics, high intensity aerobics and arthritis classes. Aqua Tots and Aqua Kids swimming lessons will be offered as well.
