Joslin Diabetes Center moves to new site at Mercy Health Plaza
Mercy Medical Center has selected a location within the Mercy Health Plaza , 5264 Council St. NE , as the new site for the Joslin Diabetes Center . The Center will open at this new location on Mon., May 5, with a public open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled one month later on Thurs., June 5, at 5 p.m.
Mercy’s long-standing Crawford Diabetes Center entered into a new partnership last fall with the Boston-based Joslin Diabetes Center , an affiliate of Harvard Medical School . The affiliation ensures that Mercy patients will continue to receive the highest level of diabetes care and education with the added benefit of access to Joslin’s state-of-the-art resources for people with diabetes. The partnership will allow Mercy to serve patients with more efficiency, and provide them with access to a peer network of similar organizations and patient profiles, expand current services and provide more specialized education and care.
The new site for the Joslin Diabetes Center will include seven individual education rooms, four private exam rooms and an education classroom for group sessions and educational forums. The Center will offer wireless Internet access and laptop hookups for patients who wish to take notes electronically or use online resources for diabetes education.
“The end goal is to offer a one-stop shop, where we serve as an education and prevention source for our patients with diabetes, but also provide specific clinical expertise drawn from the most advanced treatment options available,” says Jane Feldmann, program coordinator of the Joslin Diabetes Center at Mercy.
