Mercy chosen as grant recipient by Variety-The Children’s Charity
Mercy Medical Center is proud to announce it is the recipient of a $35,000 grant from Variety - The Children’s Charity of Iowa. The money was raised as part of Variety’s annual fundraising telethon in March.
Variety will recognize Mercy, and other local benefactors, at its annual Variety Heart Luncheon at the Cedar Rapids Marriott on Monday, Sept. 24, at 11:30 a.m.
Mercy will use the grant money from Variety to purchase three new electronic infant scales for use in the Birthplace and three new electric beds for its pediatrics unit.
“It’s wonderful. The funds benefit the children of eastern Iowa ,” says Connie Hauskins, pediatric nurse manager at Mercy and Variety board member. “We’re able to purchase equipment to specifically enhance the care of our youngest patients.”
Variety and Mercy Medical Center have a long-standing, charitable relationship. Variety is one of the recipients of Mercy Medical Center ’s annual Commitment to Community campaign wherein employees pledge a percentage of their paycheck to give to local charities. Mercy presented a check to Variety for $30,000 during the telethon in March.
