Important Information for Donors

Dear Mercy Friends:

Our community has experienced an unprecedented natural disaster of enormous proportions.  Mercy Medical Center was not left untouched by nature’s wrath and the extraordinary decision was made on Thursday, June 12, to evacuate our patients.  This temporary measure was taken to ensure the absolute safety and well-being of our patients and staff.

As a close friend and supporter of Mercy, we want to reassure you that we are in a rapid recovery mode to reopen most hospital services by June 29 offering the same quality care and excellent service Mercy has delivered for over 100 years.  We want you to know:

  • We are humbled by the widespread community support and generosity.
  • Mercy  Medical Center is dedicated to reopening its services and will do so in a phased, methodical and safe manner.  We are on the road to recovery.  In fact, Hall Radiation Center began serving patients on Monday, June 16.
  • Mercy is insured for both flooding and business interruption.
  • We are also committed to helping our community recover.  Our physician clinics have offered free tetanus shots and adjusted their hours to accommodate the increase in patients.  Mercy employees are also volunteering with flood relief efforts throughout the community.
  • You would be proud of the efforts of all employees at Mercy.  Everyone is pitching in to do whatever it takes to provide the Mercy Touch once again.

Finally, it is a priority to take care of those whose homes were devastated by the floods.  Over 130 Mercy employees and their families have experienced major losses.  To meet their immediate and future needs the Mercy Foundation has established an Employee Flood Relief Fund.

Donations can be sent to Mercy Foundation, 701 10th Street SE, Cedar Rapids , IA 52403 , or you also can give online.    Credit card donations can also be accepted over the phone by calling the Foundation at (319) 398-6206, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM

At times like this we look to the words of Catherine McAuley, the founder of the Sisters of Mercy, The tender Mercy of God has given us one another.”

Thank you for your loyalty, prayers and support.   Your hospital will be back soon – “better than ever.”

Sincerely,

Sister James Marie Donahue, Chairman

Mercy  Medical Center Foundation

Your support is appreciated.

More than 130 Mercy employees were personally affected by the recent flood disaster. To show our support, the Mercy Foundation has established an "Employee Flood Relief Fund." This fund is intended to help with immediate assistance as well as long-term needs as employees begin to rebuild and recover from the 2008 Midwest flood crisis.

Do you have an inspiring story to tell about how Mercy has come to the aid of our hospital and community or how Mercy employees have been directly affected by the flood waters? Click here to share your story.
