Mercy Laboratory Receives Accreditation from College of American Pathologists
Mercy Medical Center Main Laboratory, 701 10th St. SE , has been awarded accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent on-site, unannounced, inspection.
This national recognition recognizes Mercy for the excellence of the services provided to patients. Mercy Medical Center Main Laboratory is one of the more than 6,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide. The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors -- using rigorous accreditation standards -- examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine the entire staff’s qualifications, the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as the overall management and operation of the laboratory.
“We are proud to receive this accreditation,” said Kathleen Wilden, Laboratory Quality Manager at Mercy. “The stringent laboratory inspection program is designed to ensure the highest standards of excellence and care for our laboratory’s patients.”
The College of American Pathologists is a medical society serving nearly 16,000 physician members and the laboratory community throughout the world.
