MercyCare Community Physicians Opens
New Mt. Vernon Family Practice Clinic

MercyCare Community Physicians (MCCP), a network of more than 70 health-care providers in Cedar Rapids and surrounding communities, will host an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new family practice clinic, MercyCare Mount Vernon, on Thursday, November 2, 2006, from 3:30-7 p.m., with the ceremony taking place at 4:30 p.m. The clinic, located at the corner of Highway 1 and Rachel Street, will officially open for patient appointments on Monday, November 6.

Those attending the open house will have the opportunity to meet the clinic’s health care providers, Monica Meeker, MD, and Megan Pospisil, PA-C. Refreshments will be served and guests will have a chance to tour the new facility. Children’s activities and door prizes will be part of the celebration as well. The approximately 10,000 square-foot primary-care facility includes sixteen exam rooms, with laboratory, x-ray and behavioral services, as well as physical therapy and prenatal care.

The clinic will have a unique design to enhance the quality of patient care, with a comforting environment that improves the quality of the patient’s experience and patient confidentiality. Dr. Meeker grew up in Cedar Rapids and Mount Vernon and attended Mount Vernon schools. She received her doctor of medicine degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. She recently served as Staff Physician at University of Iowa Student Health Service.

Dr. Meeker and her husband, Jeff, have four children. Mr. Meeker is on staff at Cornell College. Megan Pospisil and her husband, Dr. Benjamin Pospisil, have one son. They live in Mount Vernon, where Ben practices as a dentist. Pospisil earned her master of science degree in physician assistant studies from the University of Iowa. Since then she has practiced as a physician’s assistant at MercyCare Monticello.

It currently has 17 other locations providing family practice, internal medicine, urgent care and specialist services in Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, Marion, Center Point, Monticello and North Liberty, opening December 2006.
