Mercy adds surgery equipment, sets a new standard in the operating room
Mercy Medical Center has advanced its surgical suites with new state-of-the-art equipment, resulting in a $1.6M technology upgrade. The newly-installed endoscopy equipment, manufactured by Stryker, continues to keep the operating rooms interchangeable and enables surgeons to perform laparoscopic procedures in all twelve operating suites.
The new endoscopy equipment will be used for abdominal procedures such as gall bladder, appendix and colon surgery, hysterectomies, arthroscopies and knee and shoulder surgery.
“This demonstrates Mercy’s commitment to stay on the cutting edge of technology,” says Sandra Armbruster, director of surgery. “It’s a phenomenal advancement and will assist us in providing the very best quality service to our patients.”
The new equipment is discretely incorporated into each operating room’s boom system, which is suspended from the ceiling. An interfaced digital capture system and printer are placed on the countertop just a few feet away. Armbruster says patients may not even realize that the new technology is in place, but the equipment means surgeons have better visualization and more control of each procedure, and can make smaller incisions. Thus, patients benefit from a more rapid recovery and have better outcomes overall.
The addition of the new endoscopy equipment is part of Mercy’s long-term plan to enhance the hospital’s surgery department and set it apart from others in the area.
