Mercy Women’s Center marks milestones for helping area women in need

Mercy Medical Center will host Team Day for the 17h Annual Especially for You® Women’s Race Against Breast Cancer  from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at Mercy Medical Center ’s J. Edward Lundy Pavilion Lobby.EFY Race Crowd

The kick-off event is punctuated this year as the Mercy Women’s Center celebrates two major milestones for the Especially for You (EFY) fund.  Since its inception in 1991, the EFY fund has helped 4,000 uninsured or underinsured women receive more than $1 million in breast care services.

For those in our community interested in helping the cause, the Especially for You Women’s Race Against Breast Cancer offers an opportunity to contribute to the EFY fund.  Team Day is an opportunity for race team captains to pick up information packets, race entry brochures and posters.  Short-term parking is available in the drive-up area at the Lundy Pavilion entrance, Eighth Avenue SE .  Information tables will be directly inside the doors.

The Especially for You Women’s Race Against Breast Cancer is Sunday, Oct. 14 .  Opening ceremonies will begin at 7:45 a.m., with the race following at 8 a.m. The competitive 5K run is open to women only, with a 5K walk open to women and men, although only women are eligible for awards.  A 1-mile family fun walk is available to everyone.

The Especially for You Women’s Race Against Breast Cancer  is co-founded by Mercy Medical Center and General Mills.  Major sponsors for the event are Fairfax State Savings Bank, OB-GYN Associates, PC and Toyota Financial Services.  The race raises funds for women unable to afford breast-cancer screenings and to educate women on the importance of early detection.

If the Team Day hours are not convenient, please call the EFY race line at (319) 398-6582, or e-mail especiallyforyou@mercycare.org
