MercyCare Telehealth at Edgewood Road Hy-Vee now open
Earlier this fall, Mercy announced plans to open a new telehealth clinic through a partnership with Hy-Vee in response to the community’s growing demand for conveniently located and more accessible healthcare. MercyCare’s Telehealth Clinic opened Nov. 16, 2015, at Edgewood Hy-Vee located at 5050 Edgewood Road NE.
The clinic uses the same technology as the MercyCare Telehealth Clinic at Rockwell Collins, but the Hy-Vee clinic will be open to the public on a walk-in basis. Patients will benefit from access to MercyCare’s exceptional providers. This is the first clinic using on-site diagnostic telehealth technology that is open to the general public in the Corridor. Telehealth visits are covered by select insurance carriers, including Wellmark.
Here’s how it works:
A telehealth visit is similar to a regular doctor’s office visit. After checking in, patients are taken to a private exam room where a registered nurse takes their health history and documents their symptoms in Epic, Mercy’s electronic medical records system. The nurse calls the provider through specially designed telehealth equipment, and the provider appears on a video feed.
The nurse remains in the room for the duration of the exam and, at the direction of the provider, uses the telehealth diagnostic equipment (otoscope, stethoscope and general exam camera), as needed. Through the main video feed, the provider is able to interact with the patient and give instruction and education. Through a separate video feed, the provider is able to view images from the diagnostic equipment.
The clinic is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and can be found by entering through the north entrance. The clinic is located next to the pharmacy. Evening and weekend hours will be added later this winter.
