What is an Internist?

Doctors of Internal Medicine or Internists, focus on adult medicine and have had special training focusing on the prevention and treatment of adult diseases. 

Caring for the Whole Patient

Internists are providers of primary care to adults and are equipped to deal with problems ranging from the common cold to complex medical issues.  They are specially trained to:

  • Handle multiple chronic illnesses at the same time.
  • Care for their patients in many settings - in the office or clinicm as well as during hospitalization.
  • Help patients gain an understanding of wellness, including disease prevention and promotion of health.
  • Act as consultants to other physicians to help solve puzzling diagnostic problems.
