Neurology

The neuroscience unit is designed to meet the needs of patients with diagnoses related to the central or peripheral nervous system. These diagnoses include strokes and transient ischemic attacks; seizure disorders; such demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barre syndrome; such neurodegenerative disorders as myasthenia gravis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinson's disease; and infections of the central nervous system like meningitis.

The Neurodiagnostics Laboratory is equipped to perform delectoencephalograms, the recording of brain waves; electromyogramphy, the electrical study of peripheral nerves; polysomnography, or sleep study; multiple sleep latency tests, performed for evaluation of narcolepsy; mean wakefulness tests, performed for evaluation of apnea treatment; and evoked potentials, the recording of the central nervous system's response to stimuli.

The staff is also available to monitor spinal injuries.
