The growth of minority and immigrant populations not only in Iowa but in Cedar Rapids and Linn County introduces new challenges to healthcare and human services providers. This program will focus on Iowa’s rapidly changing populations and the challenges and opportunities of these demographic shifts for health care and human service providers. An introduction to the core principles and practices of providing culturally competent care will be provided as well as strategies for institutions and individual workers.
The attendee will:
- Discuss the changing demographics and health disparities with immigrant populations
- Describe cultural competency guidelines for caregivers
- Apply practical applications of this information to insure that Mercy and area community organizations are more welcoming to minorities/immigrants.
