This program will focus on Iowa’s rapidly changing populations and the challenges and opportunities of these demographic shifts for health care and human service providers. An introduction to the core principles and practices of providing culturally competent care will be provided as well as strategies for institutions and individual workers.

Continuing Education Credit – Accreditation

Physicians: Information coming soon

Nursing: 2.4 contact hours of nursing continuing education credit will be awarded for attending the entire program. Mercy Medical Center is IBN Provider #57.

ARNP credit: Information coming soon

Other healthcare professionals: This offering may be eligible for 2.4 contact hours of continuing education credit. Consult your governing rules to determine if appropriate subject matter criteria will apply to credit hours.

Fees & Payment

Registration fee is $15.00. 

Cancellations will be given minus a $5.00 processing fee if cancellation is received before the start of the program.

Description

Purpose

The growth of minority and immigrant populations not only in Iowa but in Cedar Rapids and Linn County introduces new challenges to healthcare and human services providers. This program will focus on Iowa’s rapidly changing populations and the challenges and opportunities of these demographic shifts for health care and human service providers. An introduction to the core principles and practices of providing culturally competent care will be provided as well as strategies for institutions and individual workers.

The attendee will:

  • Discuss the changing demographics and health disparities with immigrant populations
  • Describe cultural competency guidelines for caregivers
  • Apply practical applications of this information to insure that Mercy and area community organizations are more welcoming to minorities/immigrants.
