Continuing Education Credit

  • Nursing:  2.4 contact hours of nursing continuing education credit will be awarded for attending the entire program. Mercy Medical Center is IBN Provider #57. No partial credit will be granted.
  • Registered Dietitians/Licensed Dietitians: This program has been given prior approval of 2 hours continuing professional education units by the Iowa Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics on behalf of the Commission on Dietetic Registration. These hours may fit into the RD/DTR’s professional development portfolio identified learning needs.
  • Certified Diabetes Educators:  To satisfy the requirement for renewal of certification by continuing education for the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE), continuing education activities must be diabetes-related and approved by a provider on the “NCBDE List of Approved Providers.” The Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing arm of the American Dietetic Association, is on the NCBDE List of Approved Providers.
  • Other healthcare professionals:  This offering may be eligible for 2.4 contact hours of continuing education credit. Consult your governing rules to determine if appropriate subject matter criteria will apply to credit hours.

Cancellations received up to the start of the program will be refunded minus a $5 processing fee.

Description

Changes in the medical management of diabetes are constantly happening. Every year there are some major changes in diabetes guidelines, medications for diabetes management or advances in insulin pump therapy options.  Attend this two-hour program and gain up-to-date information about the newest strategies in diabetes management, including current guidelines established by the American Diabetes Association.  Learn about the newest drugs on the market for the management of Type 2 diabetes and review insulin pump mechanics. Learn how insulin pumps can be used to improve both the blood glucose control and quality of life for people living with diabetes. 

Objectives: 

  • Provide an overview of diabetes, describing current guidelines for the management of the disease.
  • Discuss new medication treatment options for diabetes.
  • Outline the general concepts of insulin pump therapy and list the pros and cons of therapy and patient selection.
  • Review the differentiating features of the five most common insulin pump systems.
  • Demonstrate the use of an insulin pump system.
