Mercy Medical Center named among Most Wired hospitals in the nation

Mercy Medical Center has been recognized as one of the nation's MOST WIRED hospitals, according to the results of the 2010 Most Wired Survey released in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, a trade publication published by the American Hospital Association. This award marks the third time Mercy has been recognized on the Most Wired list since 2006.

This recognition is based on technology advancements made by organizations to enhance patient safety, clinical quality and customer service in healthcare centers.

The nation's Most Wired hospitals have demonstrated better outcomes in four key areas-infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety and care continuum.

"Mercy's focus on effectively using the appropriate technology to provide the best patient care possible, allows us be recognized in this way as a leader in the use of healthcare technology when compared with our peers both nationally and locally," says Jeff Cash, Mercy's Chief Information Officer. "Receiving this recognition as a Most Wired hospital reflects Mercy's commitment to our patients and our community - to be the hospital of choice through our care, known as The Mercy Touch, and our technology."

Some recent technology-related improvements at Mercy include:

  • Implementation of a computerized Bedside Medication Verification system which uses barcode scanning technology to support increased patient safety system for medication delivery.
  • Implementation of a computerized robotic medication dispensing system to increase the safety and efficiency of packaging and delivering patient medications.
  • Implementation of an enhanced electronic medical record system in the Emergency Department to provide increased efficiency and patient safety, while significantly reducing wait times for patients.

2010 marks the 12th annual release of the list of Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems. Of the 1,280,280 applicants who applied, Mercy was one of the 99 hospitals chosen for the Most Wired designation.

For more than 108 years, Mercy Medical Center has delivered The Mercy Touch® by partnering the latest technology with compassionate and high-quality patient care.
