Dr. Sharon Bertroche named one of Waypoint's 2010 Women of Achievement
Congratulations to Dr. Sharon Bertroche who was named one of Waypoint’s 2010 Women of Achievement on October 6, 2010. Women of Achievement are nominated for one of six categories and a panel of judges selects one woman to represent each category. Dr. Bertroche was nominated for the “Service and Support to Community or Country” category and was selected for her history of service, strong leadership displayed, positive long-term effects on the quality of life of members in her community, and extensive community involvement.
Dr. Bertroche is being honored for her dedication to educating and building awareness within the community regarding teen-related health issues. She focuses on sexual health and has supported wellness teachers in the middle schools to help them provide accurate information on teen pregnancy and STD prevention. She is also active in trying to improve the education on sexual health issues in the local high schools. She is a proponent of ensuring that all high school students have access to sexual health education. Dr. Bertroche is passionate about improving the quality of life for teens and she stresses the importance of informed choices and open parent/child communication. Her expertise and determination are a major asset to the community and validate her Waypoint honor as a 2010 Woman of Achievement.
In addition to this award, Dr. Bertroche was named the Iowa Family Physician of the Year in 2006 by the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians. She has practiced with MercyCare Community Physicians in the Marion clinic since 1996 where she is committed to providing the kind of leadership, passion, and community commitment MercyCare Community Physicians is known for.
