Mercy Medical Center Hosts Local Students for Job Shadow Experience

On Thursday, April 8, beginning at 9 a.m., Mercy Medical Center will host approximately 140 local high school students for Mercy Healthcare Day.  This event is coordinated through the Workplace Learning Connection (WPLC).  Students interested in healthcare careers applied for a job shadow through the WPLC.  Also included in this group is a Health Science Academy class.  These students are taking a college-level class through Kirkwood Community College.

Students will have the unique opportunity to observe healthcare professionals in their work settings.  Twenty-eight departments at Mercy have volunteered to host students, encompassing nearly every clinical and outpatient area in the hospital.  Departments involved include Pediatrics, Radiology, Dialysis, Birthplace, Pharmacy, Respiratory Therapy, Emergency, and many others.

Roundtable discussions will also be included over the lunch hour for the Health Science Academy class. The students will discuss careers in healthcare with Mercy professionals.
