About a year ago, I was diagnosed with oxolate-calcium kidney stones. I had multiple thumb sized stones removed from both kidneys. I am supposed to be eating a low oxolate, low sodium (Under 2000 mg a day) diet. I am also considered morbidly obese. I'm 5'5" and about 306 lbs. So, obviously, I need to lose weight as well. I've found many veggies and fruits are high in oxolate (which I am supposed to be limiting or avoiding), so what can I eat that won't give me stones and also will be conducive to weight loss? Thanks so much!

I am interested in pursuing a degree in nuitrition/public health. It appears that I could obtain a certification in this area from Kaplan University. What types of jobs would this qualify me to hold and how plentiful are these positions in the Cedar Rapids area? Is Iowa State the only university in Iowa with a BS or MS degree in nutrition? Thank you for your help.

I have a very picky 2 year old. He will not eat anything wet except oatmeal, and so far only dried fruit and no veggies. He'll eat about any kind of cereal we've offered so long as it is dry. At his physical he's on the 50%tile so I'm not worried there, however How can I get him to eat a more balanced meal? I give him a multivitamin every day, and he is lactose intollerant so no dairy. He eats lots of soy products including yogurt and milk. Meal time is becoming very difficult for us and I don't like that part. I want his meal time to be a pleasant experience, however he rarely eats anything put in front of him, unless it's of the above list. We'd like him to eat what we eat at meal time and give him servings of it in all forms like we'd eat or mushed, or cold etc and he's not wanting any of it. He would live on cold cereal if I'd let him. He is behind in his speech development due to fluid in his ears that has now been corrected, and he is behind in his eating development just a bit because he had "kissing tonsils" that also has been corrected. He chokes easily still, trying to learn how to chew and swallow correctly but that has improved a lot since tonsill removal. How much is too much pressure to get him to eat something above the level 3 baby food at this age and at what point do I get him treatment for his not eating what he should at his age? I'm not very worried about it at this point because he's only had his tonsils out a couple months and the tubes in his ears were done at the same time. We knew he'd be behind a bit, I'm just not sure how long to "wait" for him to catch up to kids his age. Will he mostlikely catch up by his third birthday in October? Any ideas to make his mealtime positive is appreciated. Thanks!
