Meet the Mercy Infection Control Expert

Jolene Ott, RN, MS, CIC

Jolene OttJolene Ott is certified in infection control and has been in the field since 1989. She has been at Mercy since 1971, and currently serves as Infection Control Coordinator. 

Jolene has held numerous positions in professional infection control associations. She served as chair of Healthy Linn Care Network and HIV/AIDS Consortium from 1997 through 2000 and is the current president of the Eastern Iowa Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology. 

Jolene's primary objective is to improve the quality of health care through the prevention, control and management of infectious diseases.

Purpose of Infection Control

Jolene works to reduce the occurrence of infectious diseases, which are usually caused by bacteria or viruses. These diseases can be spread by human-to-human contact, animal-to-human contact, human contact with an infected surface, airborne transmission through tiny droplets of infectious agents suspended in the air, and by a common vehicle such as food or water.
