Sedlacek Treatment Center

Sedlacek Treatment Center
A Word About Leo B. Sedlacek, M.D.

Often referred to as “America’s most treatable, untreated disease,” the prevalence of chemical dependency prompted Mercy to respond in 1974by opening the Leo B. Sedlacek Treatment Center.

Dr. Sedlacek was a physician, lecturer,Iowa statesman, and pioneer in the treatment of alcoholism. He provided the understanding and leadership necessary to break down the stigma surrounding alcoholism and drug addiction.

Dr. Sedlacek was recognized and honored by legislators, professionals and lay people for this work with alcoholics. The Center proudly carries his name, and continues his concern and care for  the chemically-dependent person.
