Sedlacek Treatment Center
Medical Detoxification
Treatment for many patients begins with medical detoxification. Each new patient receives a preliminary evaluation by a physician, who responds to all immediate medical needs. Shortly after admission, the Sedlacek physician performs a complete physical examination, obtains a medical history, and issues orders for any necessary lab work, X-rays and other tests.
After the initial examination, an individual detoxification program begins. Care is taken to ensure that every patient experiences the least possible discomfort while safely withdrawing from alcohol or drugs.
Treatment is also initiated for any other complicating physical problems which may be present. The detoxification area is an acute-care hospital setting. All rooms are fully equipped for emergency medical care.
All admissions, treatment plans, and recommendations for care are made or approved by the attending doctor. Personal physicians are invited to care for their patients in the unit. It is not necessary, however, to have a personal physician to be admitted. The Sedlacek physician provides medical care not assumed by personal physicians.
Specially trained registered nurses provide continual supervision during
the withdrawal process. Following detoxifications, certified substance abuse counselors provide information and referral for follow-up care.
