Dallas OlerDallas Oler, 77, has lived with Type 1 diabetes on insulin for 75 years. That achievement brought him a special recognition medal in the summer of 2011 through the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. The Mercy Joslin Diabetes Center was an affiliate of the Boston Joslin Diabetes Center from 2008-2013.

Mercy Diabetes Center has been the leader in diabetes care in our community for more than 27 years. Our commitment to providing the highest quality of diabetes treatment and education is now strengthened and expanded through our membership in the University of Iowa Health Alliance, which includes more than 50 hospitals and 160 clinics across the state.

We are proud of our continued growth as we work to make diabetes treatment and education more available in a way that meets the health needs of every individual.

Dallas is one of only 28 people with diabetes, nationwide, awarded the distinctive 75-year medal by the Joslin Diabetes Center since 1996. In recognition of his receiving this medal, Dallas was honored Nov. 4, 2011, by healthcare providers and family members at a ceremony at Mercy Diabetes Center.
