Specialty Classes
In addition to the numerous classes you can attend for free as part of your membership, Mercy Fitness Center also offers a variety of specialty classes available to you at a small cost. See specific dates and times or register for specialty here by clicking on the Fitness and Prevention link.
SILVER YOGA
Silver Yoga is a 60-minute class specifically designed for, but not limited to, "silver" older adults. This class will improve flexibility, range of motion and muscular strength. Silver Yoga is similar to an introductory class of yoga and offers many modifications to traditional yoga routines.
NIA
NIA simultaneously addresses the body,mind, emotions, and spirit, and puts them on the "Same page." NIA uses physical activity to integrate one's neurology with one's outer body, or musculature. To achieve this whole-being integration, NIA addresses the whole person, using a comprehensive, holistic exercise approach designed with a combination of nine classic movement forms.
BABY AND ME YOGA*
Moms and/or dads practice yoga with babies from ages newborn to two. This 45-minute class is just long enough, without being too long for baby. Feel free to bring a blanket or bottle feeding and your own mat.
STOTT PILATES BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE
Stott Pilates Matwork is a contemporary approach to the mind-body system of exercise pioneered by Joseph Pilates. The exercises focus on the "core" muscles of the body, emphasizing quality of movement, not quantity.
PRENATAL YOGA*
This class will help the pregnant woman meet the challenges and changes of pregnancy and birth by focusing on areas of the body that need stretching and strengthening. Physician consent required.
YOGA FOR ATHLETES
This yoga class is a vigorous, comprehensive workout designed to improve and complement an athlete's current training regime. Yoga mat required.
FIT YOGA
This hour-long class is designed to enhance cardiovascular health, muscular strength and flexibility. Fit Yoga is easy to learn and integrates body and mind health for total fitness performance.
YOGA BASICS
This class is designed for, but not limited to, students who have no previous yoga experience. You will learn yoga postures and body alignment. Students with previous yoga experience are welcome.
