Six Years and Counting!
Every second counts with a heart attack. That's why in June 2015, Mercy celebrated six years of providing 100 percent of our heart attack patients with “door to balloon” times faster than the national standard.
"Door to balloon" is the time it takes from when a patient enters the ER to when they receive life-saving intervention with heart vessel balloon angioplasty.
It's The Mercy Touch at work and we're the only hospital in the area and part of a select few in the nation to reach this milestone.
Mercy's Emergency Department is the area's most experienced accredited chest pain center.
With serious heart conditions, saving time is critical to saving lives. Mercy's team gets patients to treatment within an average time of 60 minutes - well below the national average of 90 minutes. National data shows that Mercy's response to, and care of heart attacks is the best in the region at the Mercy Chest Pain Center.
Additionally, Mercy has once again received full accreditation as a chest pain center with PCI, from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC), an international not-for-profit organization committed to improving timely, quality care for cardiac patients. The PCI designation stands for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, or opening up the heart artery. Not only has Mercy met the standards of a chest pain center but has also succeeded in meeting additional quality measures and volume of patients who needed to have a stent inserted immediately because of a heart attack.
