Incontinence and Bladder Health

Incontinence affects millions of people of all ages. Many are embarrassed to discuss it, or feel it is a normal part of aging. But this is not true! It can be helped!

Types of Incontinence

Stress Incontinence: the involuntary loss of urine during any physical activity, most commonly during coughing or sneezing.

Urge Incontinence: the involuntary loss of urine associated with a strong desire to urinate.

Mixed Incontinence: the most common type of incontinence; a combination of urge and stress incontinence.

Our Treatment Program

Mercy's  Incontinence and Bladder Health Program offers conservative methods to help individuals regain control of their bowel and bladder health. Mercy Physical Therapy offers non-invasive service to individuals, including biofeedback, a program of specifically designed exercises, education, and lifestyle modification to assist with regaining your control.

The first visit includes an initial PT assessment (in a private room, non-invasive); review of a bladder diary; education on diet and lifestyle factors; and instruction in a personalized home exercise program. Most people need only 1-6 visits.

Referral and Insurance Program

A physician referral is required. Most insurances cover rehabilitation services. Please contact your insurance company regarding coverage.
