Mission and Purpose
The Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Endowment Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation, organized and operated exclusively to foster support for the mission and activities of Mercy Medical Center and its subsidiaries. The Mercy Foundation is the steward of all gifts to Mercy Medical Center.
Mercy's mission is rooted in the ideals and philosophy of Catherine McAuley, who founded the Sisters of Mercy in 1831. Throughout her life, Catherine possessed a passionate drive to help the poor, the sick, and the uneducated. In 1824, she inherited a sum of money that allowed her to establish the House of Mercy, used to house, train, and educated poor women. It is now called the International House of Mercy, and is still in operation today in Dublin Ireland.
Catherine McAuley's spirit is alive and well at the Mercy Foundation, thanks to the Foundation's generous donors. Generous support from Mercy's many friends provides critical resources to assist in Mercy's healing mission whether it is capital improvements, services, programs, scholarships, education or research. To this day, we are guided by the words of Catherine McAuley, "we can never say it is enough."
We invite you to join us in preserving Mercy's excellence in patient care. The Mercy Foundation is ready to assist you in giving to Mercy Medical Center; the only locally owned and independent hospital in Cedar Rapids. Your gifts will be received and stewarded with careful attention to your wishes and intent. All gifts to the Mercy Foundation stay right here in our community to benefit patients and families who come to us for care.
