Memorial Day has come and gone and while most businesses are now open to some extent, summer is looking a bit different than it has in past years. With a lot of recreational activities cancelled and pools closed, it’s important to find ways to stay active and entertained. Below are some ways you can enjoy summer, despite the changes that have resulted from COVID-19.
Go Outside – Research shows that exposure to nature can improve some mental health conditions or at least help with certain symptoms such as stress, anxiety and even memory. Participating in an outdoor activity that involves interaction with nature such as gardening, taking care of your lawn or even filling a bird feeder is beneficial for people of all ages.
Get Active – It’s no secret that physical activity helps improve your mood while reducing stress and anxiety. Being active does not mean you have to go for a 3-mile run; it can be as simple as walking around the block, playing in the sprinkler with the kids or even the dog, finding a fun yard game that you enjoy like bocce ball or cornhole, or going fishing or biking.
Try Something New – Now, more than ever, is a great time to try out a new hobby or skill. Perhaps you’ve wanted to expand your cooking or baking repertoire, learn how to sew or knit, make those fancy cappuccino concoctions you love to order but have never made yourself, start a couch to 5K or even learn a new language.
