Non-Scale Victories
Losing weight is a health goal for many people. While it’s fine to measure your weight on a scale from time to time, the number on the scale isn’t the only way to measure your success.
Non-scale victories are positive changes that occur during a health and weight loss journey that are NOT measured by a scale. They can be a range of achievements that reflect improvement in physical, mental and emotional well-being. They result from small life changes. They may go unnoticed if you’re only focused on the scale as a measure of your success.
A bathroom scale shows a number — a snapshot of your weight at a given moment on a given day. You can create a truer picture of your progress by recognizing the many improvements you’re experiencing day to day.
- Improved mood, your mind is sharper
- Better sleep
- Reducing or eliminating medications
- Improved focus
- Walk, run or bike longer distances and at a faster pace
- More energy
- Improved blood labs
- Improved digestion
- Not winded going up stairs
- Fewer aches and pains
- Improved balance
- Able to get up and off the floor with ease
- Better immune health
- Less heartburn
- Higher confidence
- Noticed difference in body composition … you’ve lost inches
- Your coping mechanisms are healthier
When you notice and celebrate your many non-scale victories, you’re more likely to stay motivated in a long-term journey to a healthier life. So as you set and accomplish 2025 goals, take note of your non-scale victories too!
