Mercy Cedar Rapids is seeking Clinical Pharmacists to join our collaborative pharmacy team supporting acute care and oncology services.
At Mercy, pharmacists are valued members of the care team who work closely with physicians, nurses, and specialists to optimize medication therapy and improve patient outcomes. Our pharmacists practice at the top of their license; participating in bedside rounds, medication management, antibiotic stewardship, and clinical consultation across multiple patient care areas.
Positions are available in both acute care and oncology infusion services, offering opportunities to develop expertise in areas such as critical care, cardiology/anticoagulation, general medicine, hospice care, and oncology pharmacy practice.
What You'll Do
As a Clinical Pharmacist at Mercy, you will provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care through both clinical services and medication distribution operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Review, interpret, and verify medication orders for safety, accuracy, and appropriateness
- Participate in interdisciplinary bedside rounds with physicians and nurses
- Provide medication dosing, monitoring, and clinical recommendations
- Support antibiotic stewardship and medication optimization
- Detect, monitor, and document adverse drug reactions and medication safety events
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure appropriate medication therapy
- Provide drug information and clinical consultation to providers and care teams
- Precept and mentor pharmacy students, residents, and new pharmacists
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and pharmacy committee work
When working in the central inpatient pharmacy, pharmacists also:
- Oversee sterile compounding operations
- Ensure accurate and timely medication preparation and distribution
- Maintain compliance with pharmacy regulations and safety standards
Clinical pharmacists may also contribute to:
- Medical emergency response and drug therapy management
- Specialized pharmacy services in areas such as critical care, cardiology, anticoagulation, oncology, hospice, and general medicine
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
- Current Iowa Pharmacist License or eligibility for Iowa Board of Pharmacy licensure
- Completion of Iowa Mandatory Reporter Training (Child and Dependent Adult Abuse)
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of experience as a licensed pharmacist with enhanced clinical responsibilities
- Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency program
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialty (BCPS, BCOP, BCCP)

- Ability to evaluate complex medication regimens and optimize therapy
- Experience working within electronic health records and pharmacy information systems
- Strong collaboration skills in multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Ability to respond effectively in urgent and emergent clinical situations
