Mercy Cedar Rapids is seeking a highly skilled Senior Insurance Specialist to join our revenue cycle team. This fully remote position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate insurance billing, timely reimbursement, and effective denial resolution.
We’re looking for someone with strong experience in Critical Access Hospital (CAH) and Rural Health billing, who understands the complexities of payer rules and thrives in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment.

What You’ll Do
Revenue Cycle & Claims Management
- Submit and process third-party insurance claims accurately and timely
- Scrub claims, resolve rejections, and follow up on complex denials
- Maintain and manage work queues with clear documentation and next steps
- Review claims for completeness and accuracy prior to submission
- Update patient demographic and insurance information as needed
Account Follow-Up & Patient Support
- Verify patient insurance coverage
- Assist patients and families with billing concerns
- Ensure timely payment of outstanding balances
Documentation & Compliance
- Document all actions and communications thoroughly
- Follow departmental procedures and Mercy safety guidelines
- Assist in training Insurance Specialists as needed
What You’ll Bring
Required
- 2+ years of experience in a medical office, business office, or insurance setting
- Strong understanding of insurance billing and collections
- Certification: AAHAM or CRCR (Certified Revenue Cycle Representative)
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Preferred
- Experience with Critical Access Hospital (CAH) and Rural Health Clinic (RHC) billing
- Knowledge of medical insurance plans and medical terminology
- EPIC experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred (relevant experience considered in lieu of degree)
