Mercy offers a unique opportunity for nursing students each year with paid internships during the summer. In addition, scholarships for coursework are available for those who are accepted into a nursing internship at Mercy.
If you have a drive to provide compassionate care and excellent service to patients in a dynamic environment, please apply! As a nurse intern, you’ll get a chance to experience what Mercy offers and get a leg up on the potential employment opportunities provided at Mercy during and after your education is complete.
In past years, nurse interns at Mercy have been placed in units including:
- Intensive Care
- Orthopedics/Neurology
- Emergency
- Surgical/Oncology
- Birthplace/NICU
- Operating Room
- Inpatient Rehab
- Cardiac Stroke
- Behavioral
- Pulmonary Medicine
- Pediatrics
Hours & Shifts
The paid internship begins in June and last for 10 weeks. Nurse interns will work alongside preceptors. Hours may include off-shifts, holidays and weekends, as needed.
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must be currently enrolled as a junior in a BSN program; internships take place the summer between the junior and senior years. Our Employment Specialist can walk you through the process for applying. Download the flier (PDF) for more information.

Scholarships
Nurse Interns at Mercy are eligible to receive scholarships for their existing coursework.
There is a total of $5,000 available per Nurse Intern ($1,000 for the summer, $2,000 for the fall and $2,000 for the spring semester).
To remain eligible for a scholarship, Nurse Interns need to remain a Mercy employee throughout their senior year. The scholarship also requires a two-year commitment to Mercy Medical Center in an RN role upon graduation.
