Summer Internship Program for BSN Students
Get Paid to Gain Experience
Mercy Cedar Rapids offers a unique opportunity for BSN students with our paid summer internship program. As a nurse intern at Mercy, you will experience hands-on opportunities to master real-world skills such as starting IVs, managing chest tubes, and inserting NG tubes. You’ll gain confidence and competence in our cutting-edge simulation center, where our high-fidelity patient family lets you safely practice complex procedures in a realistic, supportive environment.
Plus, you will experience Mercy as an employer and gain the inside track on post-graduation career opportunities - all while getting paid.
In past years, nurse interns at Mercy have been placed in a variety of units including the cardiovascular lab, OR/post-anesthesia, digestive health, Intensive Care Center, Birthplace, NICU/peds, emergency, medical float pool, surgical/oncology, inpatient rehabilitation, cardiac stroke and the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center
Dates, Hours & Shifts
The summer 2026 nurse internship will begin June, 2, 2026, lasting 10 weeks, ending on August 6, 2026. Hours may include off-shifts, holidays and weekends, as needed. Interns can expect to work up to 36 hours/week.
2026 Milestone Dates - REQUIRED
Interns must be available for the following milestone dates for 2026:
- June 2nd: Start Date
- June 9th: Patient Care Services, Orientation Day 1
- June 10th: Patient Care Services, Orientation Day 2
- July 8th: Education Day
- July 23rd: Patient Care Services, Orientation Day 3
- August 6th: Wrap-up & Debrief Event
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be enrolled in a BSN program.
- Be in, or, entering senior year as of Fall 2026.
- Enroll in a specified class through either St. Ambrose University – Mt. Mercy Campus, or Coe College. Mercy covers the cost of either course.
Internships take place the summer between the junior and senior years. Our employment specialist can walk you through the application process.
