Who Can Volunteer at Mercy?
Mercy has volunteers of all ages and abilities. You must be at least 14 years old to volunteer. Those under age 16 have limited areas of service. We provide orientation and training in your assigned department to help you get started and become comfortable in our hospital's environment. All applicants are interviewed to determine interests and skills. Our goal is to create a sensitive, appropriate match between the volunteer and the department.
- All volunteers must have proof of or complete a two-part TB inoculation, have proof of two MMR (measles, mumps & rubella) vaccinations or mumps titer and complete a background check.
- Our volunteers must also sign a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is extremely important for all Mercy employees and volunteers. Effective hand hygiene is also a must.
- And each volunteer must wear a volunteer ID badge and approved uniform.
Each Mercy volunteer receives a voucher toward one meal and two free beverages for each four-hour shift. Mercy also provides volunteers with free flu shots in the fall, any medical tests required at no cost and invitations to the many Mercy employee events.
