Consistent with our in-person programs, there is no need to register prior to the support group.
Please note that this support group will be offered via an online platform called BlueJeans, which has both video and audio capability. You can join with video by using a computer, tablet or smartphone that has internet, video camera and microphone/speakers. You can also access just by voice, by calling in from a phone. You will be "on mute" when you join the forum, to help with sound quality. Facilitators will call on individuals who indicate (through raising hands, typing, etc) that they would like to share.
Notes on privacy/confidentiality:
- If you use video, you will have the choice to "turn on" your video so that people can see you, or to leave your video image blank.
- When you sign in, you’re prompted to enter your name. You do NOT have to enter your full name. First names are sufficient.
- If you call in, your phone number will typically be displayed on the screen. If you prefer, we can change this to be your name instead.
- As with any supportive group, we will ask participants to maintain confidentiality by not repeating anything that was shared, including the names of other participants. For this reason, we ask that participants find a private place from which to join the group (where others cannot pass by and view or listen to proceedings). However, confidentiality cannot be absolutely guaranteed in virtual formats - as a family member might unexpectedly walk in to a room, etc. Please keep this in mind as you consider whether to join the group.
If you have any needs or concerns that you would like to address with an Alzheimer’s Association employee outside of the support group, please know that Kara Fishburn is available for 1:1 conversations via phone. To set up a time with Kara, please call 319 238 7641 or email kmfishburn@alz.org.
We are thinking of you during these challenging times, and look forward to connecting now, or in the near future.
