Jackie's Story
When Jackie Jessen was diagnosed with not one, but two types of cancer — multiple myeloma in 2006 and breast cancer in 2015 — she started chemotherapy. Sadly, she passed away in May 2020. During her battles with cancer, Jackie grew close to the chemotherapy nurses and made her husband promise to do something nice for them after her death.
Terry delivered on his promise. He and his family planted a flowering Raindrop Crabapple tree so all chemotherapy patients can watch it grow. In fact, in a testament to her strength, Jackie’s tree survived the recent derecho weather event when most others did not! A plaque next to the tree reads, “In honor of the oncology nurses who made my days better. Jackie Jessen, May 15, 2020.”
Her husband also provided professional massages for the hard-working staff and a garden angel for the third floor Hall-Perrine Cancer Center staff.
Thank you, Terry, for your generosity toward the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center in Jackie’s memory!
