Recognition Societies
If you believe deeply in the work we do and support us at in a deeply personal way, we have created two different societies to honor you. It’s our small way of showing you how much we appreciate your support.
Founders Society
Over the years, hundreds of individuals, like yourself, have included Mercy in their estate plans, created an endowed fund, made a planned gift or contributed a total of $50,000 or more in lifetime gifts to Mercy. We are humbled by this outpouring. It’s because of you that we created the Founders’ Society to recognize your profound commitment.
Your belief in the work we do day in and day out inspires us to do our best. Your promise allows us to ensure Mercy’s excellent patient care, initiated by the Sisters of Mercy, continues. And, your deep belief in our core values lets you continue the work you have begun, even after you’ve passed.
Thank you for standing with us in delivering our mission to care for the sick and enhance the health of the communities we serve, guided by the Sisters of Mercy. For more information on the Founders Society, see Legacy Giving.
Spirit of Mercy Society
You have a connection to Abraham Slimmer, whether you know it or not. But, who was he?
Mr. Slimmer offered to match the funds raised by the Sisters of Mercy when they looked to build the original hospital in Cedar Rapids back in 1900. It was in that moment that the Sisters and the community started a tradition: every gift you give becomes a part of Mercy’s heritage, connecting the past, present and future.
In this spirit, you have the ability to become a member of the Spirit of Mercy Society, which recognizes those who give gifts of $1,000 or more each year. It’s our small way of honoring those who help uphold the Mercy mission. For more information on how to become a member of the Spirit of Mercy Society, please call (319) 398-6206 or email mmcf@mercycare.org.
Keith's Story
What do you call someone who has given annually every year since 2012 and nine times in two months during the COVID-19 pandemic? A Spirit of Mercy Society member! Keith lights up the day each week when he makes his online gift to the Employee Relief Fund in honor of the wonderful staff who so selflessly care for our patients. His generosity means that, despite COVID-19 disruptions to regular hospital business, a valued employee can pay his or her mortgage, afford extra childcare costs or buy food for children who are at home instead of in school. We think this is channeling the Spirit of Mercy and sharing it with others. Thank you, Keith!
