Home > Mercy News > Mercy gives students a look in the OR
Published on February 24, 2010
The Operating Room staff at Mercy Medical Center, 701 10th St. SE, will be hosting a group of area high school students who are interested in pursuing surgery-related careers during a job shadow opportunity on Sat., Feb. 27 from 8 to 10 a.m. The students, who are taking part in the job shadow through the Workplace Learning Connection, will get a behind-the-scenes look at the operating room and have the opportunity to talk to professionals in the field. They will tour the OR, learn to "scrub in," see how Mercy's daVinci robotic surgical system works, participate in a mock surgery and learn about anesthesia.
The Workplace Learning Connection works with schools within the Grant Wood Area Education Agency and local business communities in an attempt to develop our future workforce. By providing these opportunities to the students of today, we are working to build Iowa's workforce of tomorrow.
For more information on the Workplace Learning Connection, contact Sue Neil, Job Shadow Program Coordinator, at 319-398-1040 (office) or 319-270-3403 (cell).
