Published on February 18, 2010
Mercy Medical Center is kicking off a new wellness initiative this month called ‘Walk with a Doc.' Cam Campbell, MD, cardiologist at Cedar Rapids Heart Center P.C., will help launch the program at Lindale Mall on Thurs., Feb. 25 at 8:30 a.m. (Event details below). Dr. Campbell will lead a brief discussion on heart health at Lindale's Food Court and then guide the walk through the mall. Participants are invited and encouraged to ask Dr. Campbell heart-related questions as they walk. Other area physicians will lead the walks on a quarterly basis at various sites throughout the community.
Dr. Campbell approached Mercy about launching a local ‘Walk with a Doc' program after he learned of a similar program in Ohio.
"As a health leader in our community, Mercy is pleased to add this initiative to the services we offer through our Steps2Health walking program," says Lynn Dennis, health educator at Mercy. "It's a wonderful way for us to expand our wellness offerings to the community. It is free and open to anyone who would like to improve his or her health by becoming more active."
Mercy began a formal partnership with Lindale Mall in August. Through that partnership Mercy offers monthly Steps2Health seminars and other wellness programming at the mall. To register for Mercy's Steps2Health walking program go to www.mercycare.org/steps2health or register in person at Lindale Mall's Guest Services. Whenever participants walk at the mall they can record their activity in their walking log at Guest Services and be eligible for incentive prizes.
