Published on February 17, 2010
Mercy Medical Center has completed the relocation and construction of a new Electrophysiology (EP) Lab, along with installation of a new Siemens Artis Zee bi-plane, flat panel digital detector imaging system. This imaging system incorporates the latest advancements in medical cardiovascular imaging technology.
The new EP Lab is located in the Katz Cardiovascular Center on the hospital's ground level Lundy Pavilion. An open house & ribbon cutting is planned for Wed., Feb. 24. (Details below). The new suite has features that make it uniquely suited for EP procedures yet, with the configuration of the room, any type of invasive cardiovascular imaging procedures can be efficiently performed.
The EP Lab is designed to detect and diagnose potentially serious abnormalities in the heart's rhythm-know as arrhythmia-and treat those that can be corrected. Treatment options may include ablation or placement of an internal defibrillator or pacemaker.
Mercy's open house and ribbon-cutting will also recognize other recent changes that complete the housing of all cardiology and pulmonary procedures in one location for centralized, coordinated care. Those changes include:
Mercy's Lung Center - A newly designed system of care that features bundled services, so pulmonary patients who would normally receive multiple tests on multiple days can now receive comprehensive testing all in one day. A patient navigator has also been added to lead Lung Center patients throughout their scheduled day, offer education and answer any questions that may arise during testing procedures.
Mercy's Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation - These services, previously located at the Mercy Health Plaza, are now located adjacent to the Lung Center and housed within Mercy's reconfigured Heart, Lung & Vascular services area. The new location provides better coordination from diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitation needs of the patient. Dedicated and convenient parking for Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation patients in the 8th Street parking ramp provides better patient access.
The closer proximity of all Heart, Lung and Vascular services to Mercy's Emergency Department allows for more expedited, coordinated care when time is often a critical factor.
