Home > Mercy News > Mercy lights up its campus at Power of Pink event tonight
Published on September 27, 2012
Please join us tonight at 7:30 p.m. as Mercy Medical Center and Alliant Energy join forces to light the night pink to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month - October. The Power of Pink event takes place at Mercy’s Hall-Perrine Cancer Center and includes a lighting ceremony as well as free giveaways and pink refreshments to promote awareness and early detection of breast cancer.
Mercy will light up the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, the main hospital entrances and other areas of campus - in pink. The lights will remain lit during the evening hours throughout the month of October.
Alliant Energy will be giving away free energy-saving pink light bulbs, while supplies last. Those who receive the light bulbs are encouraged to put them in their porch lights for the month as a reminder to women on their street to get screened for breast cancer.
The public is encouraged to attend — and wear pink. A $2 donation will be made to the Especially for You® fund for each person in attendance. The fund provides breast care services such as mammograms, biopsies and ultrasounds for those in our community who couldn’t otherwise afford them.
Additionally, the General Mills plant at 4800 Edgewood Rd. SW will be illuminating areas of its property with pink lights on Thursday. The lights will shine throughout the month of October in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Mercy and General Mills are co-founders of the Especially for You® Race Against Breast Cancer. This year’s race is Sun., Oct. 7.
