Mercy Cedar Rapids named to U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care
U.S. News & World Report has once again recognized Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids as a High-Performing Hospital for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy) in its 2025 rankings. This distinction represents the highest recognition in U.S. News’ annual evaluation of maternity care, reinforcing Mercy’s commitment to delivering exceptional care to its patient families.
The Best Hospitals for Maternity Care designation assists parents-to-be in making informed decisions about where to receive care during their pregnancy. Mercy Cedar Rapids earned the High Performing designation by excelling in key quality measures, including significantly lower rates of severe unexpected newborn complications and lower C-section rates compared to non-designated hospitals.
This year’s evaluation by U.S. News surveyed an all-time high of 817 hospitals nationwide that provide labor and delivery services. Of these, only 414 were named High Performing. High-performing hospitals demonstrated:
- 44% lower rates of severe unexpected newborn complications
- 22% lower C-section rates in low-risk pregnancies
- Higher recognition for “Baby-Friendly” practices to support breastfeeding and maternal care
- Greater transparency in tracking outcomes by race and ethnicity to address disparities
“Achieving this designation reflects Mercy’s unwavering dedication to providing safe, evidence-based and family-centered maternity care,” said Emily Ludovissy, director of Women & Children Services at Mercy. “We are proud to be recognized among the nation’s top hospitals, underscoring our commitment to our patients during this significant time in their lives.”
