Mercy Cedar Rapids names new chief medical officer
Mercy Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Matthew Fox as chief medical officer (CMO), effective December 2025. Dr. Fox succeeds Dr. Tony Myers, who previously announced his retirement and will be stepping down at the end of this year.

Dr. Fox, a long-time MercyCare family physician based at MercyCare Marion, brings more than 28 years of clinical and leadership experience to his new role. As CMO, he will oversee quality, safety, risk management and regulatory efforts across the Mercy system, while also serving as a liaison to the broader medical community.
Dr. Fox has held numerous leadership positions within Mercy, including medical staff president, chair of the credentials committee, and chair of the outpatient medicine quality and patient safety committee. His clinical expertise spans family medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, and inpatient hospital care, offering a well-rounded perspective on the needs of both patients and providers.
“Dr. Fox has been a trusted physician and leader within our community for nearly three decades,” Dr. Quinn said. “His deep understanding of our mission, our patients, and our commitment to quality and safety makes him an exceptional choice to lead our medical operations into the future.”
Dr. Fox will continue to maintain his clinical practice on a limited basis, allowing him to stay closely connected to the practice of medicine and care of his patients.
He earned his doctor of medicine degree from the University of South Dakota and completed his family medicine residency at the University of Missouri - Kansas City, Truman Medical Center.
