Mercy earns national recognition for commitment to advanced stroke care
Mercy Medical Center has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award with the additional recognition of Target: Stroke™ Honor Roll Elite. The award recognizes Mercy’s continued commitment to delivering high-quality stroke care using the latest research-based treatment guidelines.
Stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death, as well as a leading cause of adult disability in the U.S. On average, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke every 40 seconds. Early detection and timely treatment are critical to improving survival and minimizing stroke-related disability.
Get With The Guidelines - Stroke is an evidence-based program designed to support hospitals in following up-to-date clinical guidelines for stroke treatment. The program aims to ensure patients receive care that is aligned with the latest research and best practices.
“Mercy is proud to be recognized by the American Heart Association for our dedication to stroke care,” said Brian Doherty, DO, medical director of Mercy’s stroke program. “This award reflects the hard work and collaboration of our stroke team to ensure patients receive the best possible care.”
Hospitals that participate in Get With The Guidelines qualify for awards by demonstrating consistent adherence to performance measures that improve quality of care. In addition to meeting these benchmarks, Mercy also provides stroke education and support to help patients manage their health after discharge.
The Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite distinction highlights Mercy’s success in meeting specific guidelines that shorten the time between a patient’s arrival at the hospital and the administration of clot-busting medication — a critical factor in reducing stroke-related disability.
