Mercy Medical Center Foundation & Fairfax State Savings Bank announce Giving Tuesday match challenge
The Mercy Medical Center Foundation is pleased to share that, once again, Fairfax State Savings Bank will be matching financial donations in observance of Giving Tuesday, which is Dec. 2. Giving Tuesday is a global philanthropic effort the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
All donations received through Dec. 2 on the Mercy Foundation’s Giving Tuesday web page will be matched dollar for dollar by Fairfax State Savings Bank, up to $25,000 total. This year’s Giving Tuesday matching gift challenge has the potential to raise $50,000 or more.
This is the fifth year that Fairfax State Savings Bank has teamed up with the Mercy Foundation to provide the matching-gift challenge. To date, the partnership has brought in more than $374,000 in donations.

After undergoing quadruple bypass heart surgery, Slater has experienced The Mercy Touch® in lifechanging ways. The Giving Tuesday matching gift challenge is aimed at encouraging members of the community to join Fairfax State Savings Bank in supporting Mercy and its exceptional patient care.
Slater, his family, and Fairfax State Savings Bank have a long-standing legacy of supporting Mercy, including financial gifts to Hospice of Mercy, HallMar Village, the Family Caregivers Center, the Especially for You® Race Against Breast Cancer, cardiac services and more. It’s a tradition that began with Slater’s father and community philanthropist, David Neuhaus, who Slater succeeded in leadership at Fairfax State Savings Bank. Neuhaus was also a long-time board member at Mercy, including serving as chair of the Board of Trustees from 2000 to 2008. Slater then joined the Mercy Foundation Board of Directors in 2023, carrying on the family’s commitment of service to Mercy.
Giving Tuesday donations can be made at www.mercycare.org/giving/tuesday or by check with “Giving Tuesday” included on the memo line. Donations received by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, will qualify for the Fairfax State Savings Bank match. Giving Tuesday gifts may also be designated to specific funds.
