Mercy Medical Center offers Inspire V™ implant procedure
Mercy Medical Center has adopted the Inspire V™ System, the newest version of Inspire® therapy for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This innovative approach provides an alternative for patients who struggle to tolerate continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy.
Mercy Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) Clinic’s Dr. Andrew Liu recently completed the hospital’s first Inspire V implant procedure. In conjunction with Dr. Syed Shah, one of Mercy's sleep medicine specialists, Dr. Liu has been offering multidisciplinary Inspire therapy to provide patients with an effective, mask-free treatment option for moderate to severe OSA.
The Inspire V System features a streamlined design that makes the procedure more efficient. Its integrated respiratory sensor eliminates the need for a separate sensing lead, allowing the device to detect breathing patterns directly from within the implant.
“We’re pleased to offer this latest advancement in Inspire therapy to our patients,” Dr. Liu said. “The Inspire V System allows for a more streamlined procedure and provides another effective option for patients struggling with sleep apnea.”
Inspire therapy is an FDA-approved, implantable treatment for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. It works with the patient’s natural breathing patterns to stimulate key airway muscles, helping to keep the airway open during sleep.
Clinical studies have demonstrated that Inspire therapy could reduce the number of sleep apnea events by 79%, with 93% of patients saying they would recommend the treatment to others.
