Mercy names physician leaders of new anesthesia services
Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids has hired two anesthesiologists who will assume leadership roles over Mercy’s new anesthesia program. Beginning August 25, Navid Etemadi, MD, will serve as medical director of Mercy Anesthesia Services, and Andrews Adjapong, MD, will serve as assistant medical director.
Both physicians have extensive experience in both practice and leadership positions, and both come to Mercy from Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind.
Dr. Etemadi completed his residency in anesthesiology at Indiana University School of Medicine and is currently the vice chair of surgery. He has held the positions of chair of anesthesia and chair of intensive care, among others.
Dr. Adjapong completed his residency in anesthesiology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He is currently the attending anesthesiologist and anesthesia care team supervisor at Good Samaritan, where he directs the management and operation of the anesthesia department.
Since transitioning to its own anesthesia program in February of 2025, Mercy has amassed a full complement of anesthesia services and offers more coverage than was possible previously. Mercy’s new team is staffed by experienced, board-certified anesthesia doctors. The transition to an in-house anesthesia team allows Mercy to offer better scheduling options for surgeons and better access to surgery for patients. This will continue to evolve even further as its anesthesia team grows.
