Mercy partners with Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity to celebrate 125 years of service
Mercy Medical Center is pleased to announce a special employee service project in partnership with Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity (CVHFH) as part of Mercy’s 125th-anniversary celebration. On Friday, April 11, Mercy employees will come together to build wall panels for a new home in Marion, continuing the Sisters of Mercy’s long-standing mission to care for those in need.
The event will take place on Mercy’s campus in Lot 7 with multiple volunteer shifts throughout the day. Approximately 65 volunteers will participate in the build, and all Mercy employees are encouraged to stop by to witness the progress and sign a board for the future homeowners. The completed wall panels will later be transported to the home’s final construction site in Marion.
“This initiative reflects the heart of our mission,” said Steph Cooper, Mission Integration committee member, Mercy Medical Center. “The Sisters of Mercy founded Mercy Hospital in 1900 with a simple, yet powerful purpose – to care for the sick and poor. By partnering with Habitat for Humanity, we are not only honoring that legacy but also making a lasting influence on the lives of a local family in need.”
“Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity is grateful to partner with Mercy Cedar Rapids to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live,” said Brittany Scanlon, CVHFH executive director.
The build will conclude with a special blessing at approximately 1:30 p.m., marking the completion of the project and offering well wishes to the future homeowners.
