Mercy welcomes new chief financial officer
Mercy Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Joe Malas, MBA, CPA, as its new executive vice president & chief financial officer (CFO). He will officially join Mercy on March 30, 2026.
Currently, Malas serves as vice president/chief financial officer at Mercyhealth, a $1.3 billion operating revenue, regional health network with more than 85 facilities serving 55 communities across Illinois and Wisconsin. Prior to that, he served for five years as chief financial officer at Genesis Health System in Davenport, Iowa, and 18 years in progressive financial leadership roles at Advocate Aurora Health System in Illinois.
Malas’ professional career spans 30 years and includes extensive experience guiding complex healthcare organizations through financial stewardship and transformation.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Malas has been actively engaged in community service, including participating on boards and committees for nonprofit organizations and his church.
