Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is the rational, judicious use of anti-infective medications. Our AMS program works with frontline clinicians and the healthcare team to optimize antimicrobial use and ensure that together we can:
- Slow and prevent the emergence of resistance
- Improve patient outcomes through evidence-based use of antimicrobials
- Reduce the incidence of antimicrobial-related adverse effects and unintended consequences (e.g., C. diff)
- Promote culture change around antimicrobials
- AMS is everyone's responsibility
- Antimicrobials are not harmless
- Antimicrobials are a shared resource
