Each September, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration recognizes National Recovery Month. Its goal is to educate the public on treatment and services available, and enable those with a mental or substance use disorder to live healthy and fulfilling lives.
Around the country, thousands of treatment, recovery and prevention programs will speak to the progress made by those they serve in order to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders. This observation month also helps reduce the stigma and any misconceptions that could potentially discourage others from seeking help.
By engaging individuals with substance use disorders, helping them access treatment, providing recovery support, and welcoming them back to the community, we can build healthier communities and reduce the public health and public safety costs of unchecked addiction. Supportive relationships and positive messages are also key to recovery.
If you or someone you know is seeking help with substance use or recovery, please contact Mercy's Employee Assistance Program at (319) 398-6694. If additional substance use treatment services are needed, your Mercy EAP Counselor can assist by making referrals for you or your family member. Recovery is possible.
